My first published book was released via Countryman Press/W.W. Norton on May 19, 2020. I used my lifetime experience as a Colorado native to curate quick escapes from the city. I was inspired by the Gold Rush spirit of our wild past when I chose some of the more interesting destinations–from the stubborn ambition of a man who built his own castle (Bishop Castle), to the majestic weirdness surrounding San Luis and the Great Sand Dunes. Whether you’re looking for romantic getaways, boozy stopovers, foodie adventures or spiritual journeys, I’ve scoured the state for the most unique hidden spots. I sought out homemade carousels, haunted getaways, neon kitsch, and triumphs of the human spirit. I was particularly interested in eccentrics who decided to create a space for themselves in the world.
